The female external genitals, the vulva.
Latin vulva, literally ‘womb’.
Vulvitis is inflammation of the vulva; vulvodynia (Greek odunē, pain) is chronic pain in the vulva; vulvectomy (Greek ektomē, excision) is its surgical removal. Some terms refer to the vulva plus another part of the body, as in vulvovaginal, the vulva plus the vagina.
