English viscous, from Latin viscum, birdlime.
Viscosity is the state of being thick and sticky in consistency (for which the adjective is viscous), or a quantity expressing the ease with which a substance flows. A substance that is viscoelastic exhibits both elastic and viscous behaviour; a viscometer is an instrument for measuring the viscosity of liquids; viscose is a viscous orange-brown solution used to make rayon fibre and transparent cellulose film.
