English ureter (from Greek ourein, urinate), plus ‑o‑.
The ureter is one of a pair of tubes by which urine passes from the kidneys to the bladder. Ureteritis is inflammation of it; ureterostomy (Greek stoma, mouth) is the surgical creation of an external opening to it; ureterectomy (Greek ektomē, excision) is its surgical removal; a ureterocele (Greek kēlē, tumour) hernia occurs when its lower end slips down into the bladder.
