Trichology is medical and cosmetic study and practice concerned with the hair and scalp (trichologist is sometimes used facetiously to mean a hairdresser); trichotillomania (Greek tillesthai, pull out) is a compulsive desire to pull out one's hair; trichiasis is ingrowth of the eyelashes; trichoepithelioma (Greek epi, above, plus thēlē, teat) is a cancerous tumour derived from hair follicle cells; a trichocyst is any of numerous minute rod-like structures found near the surface of ciliates and dinoflagellates.
