Some examples: palindrome (Greek dramein, to run) is a word or sequence of words that reads the same backwards as forwards; a palimpsest (Greek palimpsēstos, from psēstos, rubbed smooth) is a parchment which has been written on twice, the later text superimposed on earlier writing that has been rubbed out; a palinode (Greek ōidē, song) is a poem in which the poet retracts a view or sentiment expressed in a former poem; in medicine, palilalia (Greek lalia, speech, chatter) is a speech disorder characterized by involuntary repetition of words, phrases, or sentences.
