Noctilucent (Latin lucent‑, shining) refers to something glowing by night, especially noctilucent clouds, occasionally seen at night in summer in high latitudes; something nocturnal is done, occurring, or active at night; a nocturne is either a picture of a night scene or a musical composition of a dreamy nature; a noctambulist (Latin ambulare, walk) is now usually a facetious term for a sleepwalker; the noctule (via Italian nottola, bat) is the largest British species of bat.
