Affixes

A few words derive directly from Latin—examples are multitude, multiply, multifarious (of many and various types), and multiplex (consisting of many elements in a complex relationship). Many others have been created on English stems, especially in the past century, and the form is very active. A few examples: multicultural, of several cultural or ethnic groups within a society; multidisciplinary, combining or involving several academic disciplines or professional specializations; multi-faith, involving or characterized by a variety of religions; multilingual, involving several languages; multimillionaire, a person with assets worth several million pounds or dollars; multiracial, made up of or relating to people of many races.
