Leukaemia (US leukemia) (Greek haima, blood) is a disease in which increased numbers are produced of immature or abnormal white blood cells called leucocytes (also spelled leukocyte); leucine is an amino acid, a white crystalline compound, essential in the human diet; leucoderma (also called vitiligo) is a condition in which the pigment is lost from areas of the skin, causing whitish patches; a leucoma is a white opacity in the cornea of the eye; a leucistic animal has whitish fur, plumage, or skin due to a lack of pigment.
