This form is in limited use, mainly in zoology. An animal that is lamellibranch (Greek brankhia, gills), has plate-like gills, as do the bivalves, which include the oysters, mussels, and scallops; lamellicorn (Latin cornu, horn), is an older term for a member of a large group of beetles that includes the cockchafer, now usually called scarabaeoids; a lamellipodium is a flattened extension of a cell, by which it moves over or adheres to a surface.
