This appears in a few terms in mineralogy, such as granodiorite, a coarse-grained rock lying between granite and diorite in composition; granophyre (Greek porphureos, purple), a granitic rock consisting of intergrown feldspar and quartz crystals; granolithic, of concrete containing fine granite chippings, used to render floors.
