Cystitis is inflammation of the urinary bladder, a cystoscope is a device for inspecting it, cystography is a method for examining it by introducing a liquid opaque to X-rays, a cystocoele (Greek kēlē, tumour) is a hernia in it, and a cystectomy (Greek ektomē, excision) is its surgical removal. Cyst comes through Latin from the same Greek source, but in medicine has a wider meaning of any sac or cavity in the body; though the adjective cystic can refer to the urinary bladder, it can also be used in reference to the gall bladder or to cysts in general.
