The form appears in some medical terms: cheilosis refers to swollen and cracked lips, caused by a vitamin deficiency; cheilitis is inflammation of the lips; and cheiloplasty is plastic surgery on the lips. The Chilopoda (Greek pous, pod‑, foot) is a class of arthropods which comprises the centipedes, so called because the foremost pair of legs are jaw-like appendages.
