A centripetal force (Latin petere, seek) is one that moves or tends to move towards a centre, the opposite of centrifugal (Latin fugere, flee), acting away from a centre. A centrifuge is a rotary device that separates fluids of different densities by applying centrifugal force. In mathematics, a centroid is the centre of mass of an object. In biology, the centrosome (Greek sōma, body) is a small body near the nucleus of a cell, and a centromere (Greek meros, part) is the point on a chromosome by which it is attached to a spindle fibre during cell division.
