Medical terms in this prefix include androgen, a male sex hormone such as testosterone or androsterone, and andrology, the study of male health, especially infertility and impotence. Someone androgynous (Greek gunē, woman) exhibits characteristics both of male and female, usually in the social sense rather than as the result of a medical condition. An android in science fiction is either a human-looking robot or a biological construct in human form; it is also an adjective referring to something typically masculine, such as an android pelvis, one characteristic of the male.
