alumin(o)-
Aluminium.
Latin alumen, alumin‑, alum, an aluminium compound used in dyeing and tanning.
Alumino‑ is comparatively unusual, appearing mainly in aluminosilicate, a silicate containing aluminium, as in some clays or feldspars; the adjective aluminous describes minerals that contain aluminium; and alumina, an ore of aluminium. The aluminothermic process (also called the thermite process) reduces metallic oxides to their metals using finely powdered aluminium; a mineral that is aluminiferous contains or yields aluminium.
