`The aldehyde group is —CHO, formed by the oxidation of alcohols. The aldoses are sugars that contain the group, such as ribose; aldol (formal name 3-hydroxybutanal) is a viscous liquid obtained when two molecules of acetaldehyde link together in dilute alkali or acid (the name is a blend of aldehyde and alcohol, since the molecule shows properties of both); aldosterone is a hormone containing an aldehyde group which regulates water and salt balance; aldolase is an enzyme found in muscle tissue.
