The building blocks of English
Affixes
-something
A person whose age falls into a given decade.
English something.
Originally in American English (especially following a television series of the late 1980s called Thirtysomethings), and then more widely, this ending has been adopted to create nouns and adjectives that indicate a person whose age falls into a given decade: twentysomething, thirtysomething, fortysomething. These are usually written without a hyphen.
