Sugars and other carbohydrates.
From the ending of glucose, the first example, which was named in French from Greek gleukos, sweet wine.
Examples of sugars are fructose (Latin fructus, fruit), found especially in honey and fruit; dextrose (Latin dexter, dextr‑, on the right), the dextrorotatory form of glucose, the predominant naturally occurring form; maltose, produced by the breakdown of starch, for example by enzymes found in malt and saliva. More complex carbohydrates, formed of sugar units, include cellulose, which is the main constituent of plant cell walls and of vegetable fibres such as cotton.
