Instances are mostly from psychiatry and medicine and include coprolalia (Greek kopros, dung), the involuntary use of obscene language, as a symptom of mental illness or organic brain disease; echolalia (Greek ēkhō, echo), uncontrollable repetition of another person's spoken words as a symptom of psychiatric disorder; glossolalia (Greek glōssa, language, tongue), apparently speaking in an unknown language, especially in religious worship, speaking in tongues; palilalia (Greek palin, again), a speech disorder characterized by involuntary repetition of words, phrases, or sentences.
