Forming adjectives.
French ‑in, ‑ine, or from Latin ‑inus, sometimes derived from Greek ‑inos.
This suffix appears in adjectives derived from Latin: asinine, clandestine, divine, feminine, genuine, marine, masculine, supine. It also appears in some adjectives from proper names or placenames: Levantine, Saturnine.
It also forms adjectives related to or formed from the taxonomic names of families, subfamilies, or genera: bovine (genus Bos, cattle), feline (family Felidae, the cats), colubrine, snake-like (family Colubridae).
Other examples are adjectives formed from the names of minerals, plants, and the like: coralline, crystalline, hyacinthine.
