In systematic naming, an animal subfamily is a collection of genera within one family (whose name ends in ‑idae). Examples include Bovinae, which includes wild and domestic cattle and bison, a subfamily of the Bovidae; Falconinae, the true falcons, such as the peregrines; and Felinae, which includes the domestic cats and many wild cats, such as the ocelot, lynx, and puma.
