Old French ‑ice, from Latin ‑itia, ‑itius, ‑itium.
Examples include avarice, cowardice, jaundice, justice, malice, notice, novice, precipice, and service. Some words have come from other sources and have taken on the same ending by a process of assimilation: accomplice, apprentice, crevice, lattice, poultice, and practice. See also ‑ise2.
