The building blocks of English
Affixes
-gon
A plane figure with a specified number of straight sides.
Greek ‑gōnos, angled.
Terms mainly use Greek numerals to indicate the number of sides (see the entry Number words): pentagon, hexagon, dodecagon; polygon, many sided. A few employ Latin equivalents: octagon, nonagon. For the equivalent solid figures, see ‑hedron.
