The building blocks of English

Affixes

-eth2

Forming the third person singular of the present tense of verbs.

Old English ‑eth, ‑ath, ‑th.

This ending is archaic, familiar only from older writings, such as the King James Bible: "For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it". For the equivalent second person form, see ‑est2.
