The pericarp (Greek peri‑, around) is the part of the fruit formed from the wall of the ripened ovary; in some fungi and related plants the sporocarp (Greek spora, spore) is the fruiting body in which spores form; a schizocarp (Greek skhizein, to split) is a dry fruit that splits into single-seeded parts when ripe.
