Affixes
-agra
Pain in some part of the body.
Greek agra, a seizure.
A few medical terms contain this ending. The most common are podagra (Greek pous, pod‑, the foot), gout of the foot, especially of the big toe, and pellagra (via Italian from Latin pellis, skin, on the pattern of podagra), a vitamin deficiency disease. Rarer terms from the same source include rachisagra, gout affecting the vertebral column (Latin rachis, vertebral column or spinal cord); coxagra, pain in the hip (Latin coxa, hip); and chiragra, a pain in the hand (Greek cheir, hand).
