yester-

Yesterday.

Old English geostran, of Germanic origin.

Compounds containing yester‑ are now archaic or poetical; the only common example surviving in the language is yesterday. Instances of rarer or dialect forms are yestereve, yestermorn, yesteryear, and yesternight. The word can exist alone as the adjectives yester or yestern, but these too are now only dialectal or poetic.
