In medicine, venipuncture (sometimes venepuncture) is the puncture of a vein for any therapeutic purpose; venography is x-ray examination of a vein after injection of a radiopaque fluid, so producing a venogram; venesection (sometimes venisection) is another name for phlebotomy, the letting of blood by cutting a vein.
