A tube or long cavity; a fistula.

Greek surinx, suring‑, tube, channel.

Syringomyelia (Greek muelos, marrow) is a chronic progressive disease in which longitudinal cavities form in the cervical region of the spinal cord, an extension of which into the lower brainstem is a syringobulbia; syringoma is a condition in which multiple benign tumours of the sweat glands appear. The Greek word appears in syrinx, the lower larynx or voice organ in birds, for which the adjective is syringeal.
