A sphygmomanometer is the standard doctor's instrument for measuring blood pressure by means of an inflatable cuff around the arm linked to some type of pressure gauge or manometer; a sphygmograph is an instrument which produces a line, on a sphygmogram, recording the strength and rate of a person's pulse.
