scot(o)-2
Darkness.
[Greek skotos, darkness.]
This combining form is particularly associated with human vision, as in scotopic, relating to or denoting vision in dim light; and scotoma, a partial loss of vision or blind spot in an otherwise normal visual field. In biology or animal husbandry, a scotophase is an artificially induced period of darkness. Scotophobia is fear of the dark.
