Parthenogenesis (Greek genesis, creation) is reproduction from an ovum without fertilization, a normal process in some invertebrates and lower plants; parthenocarpy (Greek karpos, fruit) is the similar development of a fruit; a parthenospore is a spore produced without previous sexual fusion.
