Examples are apnoea, temporary cessation of breathing, especially during sleep; dyspnoea (Greek dus-, difficult), difficult or laboured breathing; tachypnoea (Greek takhus, swift), abnormally rapid breathing; and orthopnoea (Greek orthos, straight, right), difficulty in breathing except when standing or sitting upright.
