-pedia Also -paedia
Compendium of information.
[Greek paideia, education. ]
The term from which others derive is encyclopedia, which comes via Latin from the pseudo-Greek word enkuklopaideia, more correctly enkuklios paideia, all-round education. The spelling in -paedia is archaic and appears only in the titles of long-established works such as the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Cyclopedia is an abbreviated form. A few terms have been created on its model, such as the irregularly-formed Weblopedia, an encyclopedia accessible through the World Wide Web, and rockopedia, one containing information on rock music.
