magneto-
Magnetism or a magnet.
[English magnet plus -o-.]
A magneto-optical device employs both optical and magnetic technologies, as some computer storage media do; the adjective magneto-electric refers to the electric currents generated in a material by its motion in a magnetic field; magnetoresistance is the dependence of the electrical resistance of a body on an external magnetic field; the magnetosphere surrounding the earth is the region in which its magnetic field predominates over others.
