-machy
Fighting.
[Greek -makhia, -fighting.]
Some rather rare terms contain this ending, such as sciamachy (Greek skia, shadow), an archaic term for sham fighting for exercise or practice; tauromachy (Greek tauros, bull), bullfighting or a bullfight; gigantomachy (Greek gigas, gigant-), the struggle in Greek mythology between the gods and the giants; logomachy (Greek logos, word), an argument about words; and theomachy (Greek theos, god), a war or struggle against God or among or against the gods.
