fruct(i)- Also fructo-.
Fruit; fructose.
[Latin fructus, fruit.]
An insect or animal that is fructivorous eats fruit; to fructify is to make something fruitful or to bear fruit. Fructose is fruit sugar, so called because it is found in fruit juices as well as in honey; several terms relate to its presence in the body: fructokinase is an enzyme involved in its metabolism; fructosemia is the presence of fructose in the blood; and fructosuria is similarly its presence in the urine.
