-faction
Nouns of action or associated state.
[Latin facere, to do or make.]
English has adopted most words in this ending from Latin originals that already contain the root, such as benefaction, the making of a gift or donation (literally, ‘doing good to’, from Latin bene, well); satisfaction (Latin satisfacere, satisfy), fulfilment of one's wishes or expectations; stupefaction (Latin stupefacere, be amazed), the action or state of being stunned or insensible. Many have related verbs in -fy and adjectives in -facient.
