A hexagon is a six-sided plane figure, while a hexahedron is a solid figure with six plane faces. A hexameter (Greek metron, measure) is a line of verse that consists of six metrical feet. In architecture a hexastyle is a six-columned portico (Greek stulos, column); in music, a hexachord is a scale of six notes. A hexad is a group or set of six. In computing, the hexadecimal number system is one based on 16. In chemistry, hexane is a hydrocarbon containing six carbon atoms; a hexose is a member of a group of simple sugars whose molecules contain six carbon atoms, such as glucose and fructose.
