anth(o)-
A flower or flowers.
[Greek anthos, flower.]
The anthocyanins (Greek kuan(e)os, dark blue) are pigments that give the red, blue, or purple colour to flowers and fruits; an anthozoan is a member of a large class of marine animals that includes the sea anemones and corals, which resemble flowers. An anthology is literally a collection of flowers, but figuratively refers to little flowers of composition—poems or epigrams by various authors.
