amid(o)-

The CONH2- group in chemical compounds.

From amide, an organic derivative of ammonia.

The group is variously called the amide group or amido group and occurs, for example, in polymers. Amidines are strong bases derived from amides; amidol (a trade name for diamidophenol) is a photographic developer.
